»Nisem svetnica, jaz sem hrušč,« je v svoj dnevnik zapisala trinajstletna Joan, namigujoč na neskladje med svojim zunanjim in notranjim življenjem. Dokumentarec, ki ni niti običajna biografija niti klasičen koncertni film, spremlja »kraljico folka« na poslovilni turneji leta 2018 ter oživlja njeno preteklost z brskanjem po bogatem osebnem arhivu: družinskih filmih, najstniških dnevnikih in risbah, posnetkih psihoterapij ter zvočnih pismih. Joan Baez je zaslovela pri osemnajstih (»bila sem pravi glas v pravem trenutku«), pri enaindvajsetih se je znašla na naslovnici revije TIME, imela je kratko, a intenzivno romanco z mladim Bobom Dylanom (»mislim, da mi je zlomil srce«) in kot glasna zagovornica državljanskih pravic korakala ob Martinu Luthru Kingu … Izvemo pa tudi, da je bila v otroštvu pogosto tarča rasizma (njen oče je bil Mehičan), da se je od malega borila z anksioznostjo in da jo je vse življenje spremljala globoko zakopana otroška travma …
